While many of us are still using devices with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 CPU, the company has nowrevealed a new, more powerful model with the Snapdragon 805 Ultra HD quad-core processor.
As its name suggests, the most interesting feature of Qualcomm's new CPU is its ability to handle Ultra HD 4K video playback across your smartphone, tablet and smart TV. "Using a smartphone or tablet powered by Snapdragon 805 processor is like having an Ultra HD home theater in your pocket, with 4K video, imaging and graphics, all built for mobile," executive vice-president of Qualcomm Technologies, Murthy Renduchintala said.
It packs the Krait 450 CPU, with 4 cores each running at 2.5GHz fed by 25.6 GB/s of max memory bandwidth, which according to the company will make apps run much smoother. Designed to bring the most powerful and highest quality mobile video, Qualcomm also says that the 805's Adreno 420 GPU will run graphics with 40% more power than its predecessor.

Renduchintala continued with, "We're delivering the mobile industry's first truly end-to-end Ultra HD solution, and coupled with our industry leading Gobi LTE modems and RF transceivers, streaming and watching content at 4K resolution will finally be possible."
Although some suggest we could be seeing commercial devices with the Snapdragon 805 processor as soon as early 2014, it looks as though Qualcomm has said that manufacturers won't begin sampling the product until early next year, pointing at a later retail appearance.
